Overnight there was a political earthquake in New York. I said in a post late yesterday that until established Democrats wake up they are destined to be in opposition for the foreseeable future.
As ever when I make such a statement on X received little engagement because speaking out against Dems is seen as disloyal. F*ck that, this is a moment in American history when Democrats need to take a long hard look in the mirror and say ‘What do we stand for’? Because when you as a party decide to get together with billionaire donors to spend tens of millions of dollars to beat a Muslim American attempting to say ‘Enough is enough, we need to put the people first’, you have a BIG PROBLEM.
When David Hogg had the audacity to say things need to change when he was elected vice chair of the DNC what happened? He was attacked and forced out.
At the Election in November, the American people sent a clear message. And yes I am aware of the Rockwell court case challenging the election result. That aside, I say again as I have before Democrats failed the American people. The truth sometimes hurts, it can be uncomfortable.
It is the definition of madness to keep doing the same old same old over and over again and expecting a different outcome. In November Trump didn’t win the election Democrats lost it because the argument was not about offering a cohesive vision it was about ‘Don’t vote for the other guy he’s a fascist’.
The number of times I’ve heard ‘Well we told them not to do it, but they voted for Trump, so now it’s on them’ What a compelling argument (NOT).
I said the New York mayoral race was an opportunity for Democrats to be bold and brave at a time when America needs hope and the Democratic establishment said ‘No thanks we prefer a disgraced sexual predator over a man with a vision for a better tomorrow’
These posts always cost me bucket loads of followers on X, but to those who walk away I say ‘Progress is never made until people stand up and say this abuse has to stop’
Dems lost the House, the Senate, the White House and the popular vote. Which part of this statement are people struggling with? Aside from a small number of Democrats fighting back, the rest are sat back saying ‘please don’t hurt us’ cowering in the same corner as the entire Republican caucus, while, still insider trading stocks.
Before anyone asks my opinion on the fact that 128 Dems voted against impeaching Trump on bombing Iran, the whole vote was in my opinion a mistake, it should never have happened. That was not the hill to die on. It’s an unwelcome distraction. Progressives need to be smarter than that.
Moving back to the matter at hand Zohran Mamdani winning the New York primary for mayor is a clear indication that there is an appetite for change. Is it an approach that would work in less blue cities, maybe not, but until you break the glass you will never know and he’s not Mayor yet. What it has done is provoke an important conversation Democrats are currently running away from.
What I would simply say is tyranny is now the default form of governance in America and the answer is NOT Republican lite. So Democrats need to make their mind up what they want to do because right now the only person that can beat Trump is Trump and if that isn’t of concern to you, I suggest you need help.
When you win an election because the people voted for you just because they hate the other guy, what does that say about YOUR vision?
