When cancer grows, it doesn't happen in plain sight. Once it metastasises, the writing is on the wall

The cancer attacking representative democracy in the US is Project 2025. It has spread to every corner of government and is about to metastasise into Project Esther to extinguish the patient.

Another weekend arrives. Remember the days when weekends were the highlight of the week, an opportunity to relax, benefit from the fruits of your hard work, maybe dare to dream about what the future might hold? Now we find ourselves in a perpetual state of fear, not knowing what the lunatic in the White House has planned for us in his march to absolute power. In this moment, I know fear and despair are dominating the minds of the vulnerable, but if that’s you, I want you to know there is a whole army of good people fighting to destroy this monster.

If it’s one thing the American people are coming to terms with, it’s that just as it’s all but impossible to stop a suicide bomber when they have no fear of death. It’s the same with a narcissistic president who is so convinced by his own lies, he is prepared to throw the American people under the bus just to save face. We know power corrupts, because the Democratic Party, which should be defending the rights of the unheard and the vulnerable, in too many instances has chosen instead to protect the rights of corporate interests to keep feeding from the trough, while hiding behind the few Democrats prepared to put the people first and say no to dark money.

Never in recent history has there been such an existential threat to American values and the American way of life. Public broadcasting has been assassinated, and yesterday Trump fired the head of the Bureau of Labour Statistics because he didn’t like the revised job numbers published for May and June, which showed a massive jobs downturn. I did a separate post on this, so feel free to read it for a more detailed assessment.

Trump is now looking to take the deception to the next level, and I’m sure there will be more moves planned to bolster his illusory narrative. The only problem with his plan is that you can only hide the reality for so long. You saw it in the markets yesterday: to this point, they have chosen mainly to ignore Trump’s threats and filibustering, but yesterday it reached a tipping point even for them. Trump has become so accustomed to his word being the truth as perceived by millions of Americans that he thinks he can just say the numbers were wrong and that makes it so. To add the cherry on top, he placed a target on the back of the person he unceremoniously sacked, which is frankly dangerous and unconscionable, given that person was simply doing their job.

I wish I could tell you things will get better, but sadly, I can’t. The only consolation is that you can cook the books as much as you like; eventually, the real numbers will surface as the lies run out of oxygen. The only problem then is how much damage has been caused by the deliberate deceit. Once you have reached the point where the markets can no longer trust the numbers, they either decide to go along with the Ponzi scheme or they react in a BAD way. This has the real potential to mirror the 2008 financial crash, where the banks hid the bad debt inside an illusion of very profitable growth. They were playing a game of pass the fiscal IED; eventually, it exploded in the face of the bank holding the debt package when the truth surfaced.

Many are still living with the scars of this economic catastrophe, but here we are again, and the leader of the free world appears now to be the one leading the charge to hide the actual state of the US economy. Take a moment to think about that. It is impossible to overstate the potential for a catastrophic global economic meltdown if another Trumpian lie misrepresents the entire American economy.

They are looking at everything from redefining how to calculate GDP to inflation. This is a massive conspiracy in the making to deceive the American people, and you should be truly terrified. There is no path to success, because NOTHING is based on facts; instead, critical economic decisions will be made based on ‘alternative facts’, or ‘Trump truths’ as I prefer to call them. The whole situation horrifies me. The US economy is living not on revenue from overseas exporters as Trump claims, but on taxes levied on US importers, which are then passed on to consumers. U.S. exports and imports are now showing signs of distress; it is quite literally an economic death spiral, now to be propped up with false financial data. What could possibly go wrong?

If only it ended there. Alas, we are now seeing Project 2025 metastasise into Project Esther, and this shift is a real mind bender. We have seen moves to revoke the visas and right to stay for anyone THEY deem to label as antisemitic. It has mainly been focused to date on attacking higher education, and the capitulation from many of these long-respected establishments has been disappointingly swift.

As reported by Katie J.M. Baker in the New York Times, first published on May 18th and later updated on June 20th:

In late April, the Heritage Foundation dispatched a team to Israel to meet with power players in Israeli politics, including the country’s foreign and defense secretaries and the U.S. ambassador, Mike Huckabee.

She goes on to note:

‘… the Heritage contingent was in Israel, in part, to discuss another contentious policy paper: Project Esther, the foundation’s proposal to rapidly dismantle the pro-Palestinian movement in the United States, along with its support at schools and universities, at progressive organizations and in Congress.

[Project Esther is] an ambitious plan to fight antisemitism by branding a broad range of critics of Israel as “effectively a terrorist support network,” so that they could be deported, defunded, sued, fired, expelled, ostracized and otherwise excluded from what it considered “open society.”

You really should take a moment to read the excellent piece by Katie, which I have gifted here. There is no low bar for these monsters as the cancer spreads to consume every moral fibre of American society. The Heritage Foundation are pouring gasoline on hatred of the ‘other’, while using the horror of a terrorist attack on innocent Israeli citizens as cover for a new Christian Nationalist Utopia antithetical to fundamental Christian values.

The premise of Project Esther is to use islamophobia as the foundation to build a framework designed to eradicate dissent. The objective is to label any dissent as support for their fantasy global Islamic terrorist network. The aim is to tap into the fear of Islamic fundamentalism as a seed to exert control, not unlike the McCarthy witch hunts for communists. The hate has just been repackaged and given a fresh coat of hate. The whole objective is to create a society in which White Christian Nationalism becomes the rule of law, creating a permissive environment to discriminate and abuse non-conforming communities like immigrants and the LGBTQ+ community.

We have already seen attempts now to facilitate the eradication of vagrancy and institutionalise those deemed to be suffering from a mental illness, for which they would like to see Trump Derangement Syndrome as a qualifying condition. We are witnessing government data, including medical records, being aggregated by Palantir to create a permissive environment for political and social profiling. These are not left-wing talking points; this is work in progress right here, right now. Trump and his acolytes are creating a hybrid version of The Handmaid’s Tale and Westworld, and the sheep are now being corralled into the pens for state re-education.

It’s as if I am writing a script for a Hollywood movie, but it’s real life in America in 2025. I know it would be easy to read my work and call it fantasy, but that’s the whole object of their plan: to be able to dismiss those delivering the truth as some madcap conspiracy theorist. Now you can choose to believe what you will, but I’d be more than willing to circle back and re-examine my work in 2028 and find out who was telling the truth. When I started to write about Project 2025, I was accused of being a left-wing nut job trying to spread fear. I think you will find every word was correct.

There is nothing I would like more than to be wrong, because that would refute my beleif that humans as a species are their own worst enemy and that the good guys always win. Sadly, history tells us that we are cruel, selfish, self-serving creatures who have little issue with inflicting pain and suffering on each other. We are by nature schizophrenic. My only hope is that the inherent good in us can prevail over the cruelty that is never far from the surface of who we are.

Project Esther is designed to mine the hate inside us and weaponise it to transform society through a righteous crusade against any enemy our new ruler designates for social extermination. The Times report goes on to note that Victoria Coates, former deputy national security adviser to Mr. Trump and now vice president at Heritage, oversees Project Esther, stated:

“The phase we’re in now is starting to execute some of the lines of effort in terms of legislative, legal and financial penalties for what we consider to be material support for terrorism.”

As you would expect, the White House states that it is not using Project Esther as a guide, much like they knew nothing about Project 2025. However, the reporting continues:

Robert Greenway, a Heritage national security director who coauthored Project Esther, said it was “no coincidence that we called for a series of actions to take place privately and publicly, and they are now happening.”

If there were one key section of the excellent report by Katie Baker it would be this:

Republican and Democratic administrations alike have long supported and funded Israel as a crucial ally. And there have been bipartisan efforts to counter criticism of Israel by labeling a range of speech and organizing in support of Palestinian rights as support for terrorism. But Project Esther aims to go further, equating actions such as participating in pro-Palestinian campus protests with providing “material support” for terrorism, a broad legal construct that can lead to prison time, deportations, civil penalties and other serious consequences.

“Project Esther changed the paradigm by associating anyone who opposes Israeli policies with the ‘Hamas Support Network,’” said Jonathan Jacoby, the national director of the Nexus Project, a watchdog group that works to combat antisemitism and protect open debate. “It’s no longer about ideology or politics; it’s about terrorism and threats to American national security.”

HSN is a term you will hear repeated over and over again. The real sleight of hand when it comes to using Project Esther to make the most bizarre links between Trump dissenters to place them under the umbrella of association with an HSN. It is by any measure a state-sponsored attack on human rights. The sole focus of the project is to focus on antisemitism on the left; there is no attention paid to the well-documented antisemitism and political violence on the right.

This has nothing to do with antisemitism; it is a program designed to shut down dissent dressed in an antisemitism suit. A point unequivocally made in an open letter by American Jewish Leaders dated 8th March 2025, from which the key paragraph states:

A range of actors are using a purported concern about Jewish safety as a cudgel to weaken higher education, due process, checks and balances, freedom of speech and the press. Let us acknowledge that these rights, institutions and systems are the cornerstone of American Democracy and enabled American Jewry to thrive in the 20th century. American Jewry enjoyed more rights, more freedoms, more opportunities and more achievements than we have ever known in 2,500 years of Jewish life.

As with all Heritage Foundation plans, the text is deceptive, deliberately ambiguous, allowing for broad catch-all interpretations to serve the purpose of targeting ANY group the administration considers a threat to its objectives. It seems clear to me that there is now a concerted effort underway to distort the political landscape to facilitate voter suppression and make it impossible for civil rights organisations to operate.

I believe that Project Esther is just one part of a concerted effort to attack the voting rights of minority communities. Yesterday, 1st August 2025, as reported by Politico:

‘The Supreme Court just dropped a hint about its next big Voting Rights Act case’

In a piece by Zach Mon. Tellaro and Josh Gerstein, they note:

The Supreme Court said Friday that it will weigh the constitutionality of a common form of redistricting used to protect the voting power of Black and Hispanic voters: the drawing of congressional districts where racial minorities make up at least half the population.

It seems to me that they are going after the Voting Rights Act as part of this new effort for MAGA to pick their voters rather than voters choosing them. It seems no matter which way you turn, they are looking to use the courts to protect the power they have seized. These are, of course, the same courts they believe have no right to interfere with the wishes of the great leader. I fear it will only get worse the closer we get to election season. Bear in mind that the ruling on this from SCOTUS will likely come next year, just before the midterms.

The report notes:

Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, a landmark law passed during the civil rights era, generally prohibits race-based discrimination in voting laws and practices. In redistricting, the law is used to protect against racial gerrymandering that would unfairly dilute the voting power of racial and ethnic minority voters. States across the country routinely seek to comply with Section 2 by drawing congressional districts where minority voters can elect their chosen candidates.

There is no question they are reshaping every aspect of American society. Soon, voting will be the same as voting in Russia; you can vote for any candidate you like as long as it’s Trump. You won’t be able to believe anything you’re being told about anything from public health to the economy. There will be no room for dissent, and the curtain will be lifted on the new theocratic authoritarian state under the absolute control of one man.
