Thank so very much for explaining so clearly how we got here and what we must do - protect the vote. I always thought someone else was behind tRump - should have guessed it was the Heritage Foundation/Project 2025!!! All that said, I do blame Biden (who did do a lot of great things, and whose heart is absolutely in the right place) did not initiate the prosecution of tRump immediately upon taking office. And I blame the Democratic leadership for not realizing early on what we are up against - folks that will engage in criminal or quasi criminal activity to hold power (there is no words re the fact that we have inhumane concentration camps in America in 2025/2026!!!). Now we must all understand that this is war to save our most beautiful republic, and tacitly agree that all empires eventually fall. We should all want for our children and grandchildren what we all had. Again, thank you very much. God bless America!!!

Thank you for your kind words. I know under Trump the Attorney General followed White House instructions, but that is not and should not be how it works.

Under Biden he rightly did not interfere in matters of the DOJ because it was separate as it should be from the executive.

I do however and was VERY vocal at the time, blame Merrick Garland for not expediting the cases against Trump and for his failure to get Jack Smith involved MUCH EARLIER in the process.

You are correct that Biden did some great work, but he let the country down when he did not honor his promise to be a one term bridge to new democratic leadership. His actions left Harris with an insurmountable mountain to climb. that’s my take for what it’s worth Lewis - Martin

Thank you Martin. Couple points.

Yes Biden honored the separateness of his office and the DOJ, but tRump certainly has not and Biden (and Garland) should have seen that coming.

Absolutely, I agree with you that Biden should have honored his one term promise, BUT not only to give Harris more time (which of course she should have had - I enthusiastically supported her), but so there could have been a Democratic convention. Perhaps, perhaps that would have reduced the apathy and caused more to get off their couch and vote.

Again, thank you so very much for your clear-sighted commentary/observations.

With warmest regards, Lewis

You are of course correct and that’s the difference between an honorable man and a convicted criminal.

While Kamala would not have been my natural choice I think she did a remarkable job given the 100 days she had. I was all in too creating a number of Ads in support, this was just one of them

This is one of the most lucid and succinct explanations I have read.

That’s very kind of you. I appreciate your appreciation my friend. - Martin

Where is the honesty box you mention? I would like to buy you a coffee.

It’s a question a few people have asked today, I was just speaking metaphorically, but beginning with tomorrow’s piece I’ll add it to the foot of each post.

Thank you for your kind offer. I appreciate it.

Thank you for this frightening and clear explanation. I see the possibility of further replication in UK - or is Farage just Trump's puppet?

Truth Matters's avatar

It is a real threat here in the UK and something I work on away from Substack at the moment. Farage CANNOT be allowed to become prime minister here.

Martin great post. I have one comment .

This Republican "fear" of 47 , seriously ! If this was so true why would they those fightened reptilians not have convicted during not one but two impeachments . They threw in and down because their core beliefs and greed are aligned. Not fear , complicity.

Where is the donation tea & crumpet jar ? I don't see it on the page ?

Thank you . Pope Leo has more opposition energy than the entire Democratic Party , just saying .

Truth Matters's avatar

Thanks Frances, I hear what you’re saying and there is no question they are complicit, but I believe that complicity comes from fear, not of him as a person, but the damage done if you don’t align with him.

He is a vile vile person and he will sadly remain a threat even when he is removed from office I fear. - Martin

Where is the buy me a coffee or donation spot ?

I was speaking metaphorically Frances, but am happy to add it to the foot of posts, I just so acutely aware of how tight things are for so many people.

Why was Musk brought in, if it wasn’t ‘something’ to do with the voting machines ??

Otherwise, I agree with all else - and thank you 💙

Martin, What did you think of Robert Reich’s post of today? Best, Lewis

Guy Dawson's avatar

This is a great explication of the Alt Reich. We can never let down our guard because this movement has been brewing for over a hundred years in this country. It won’t go away just by winning an election. In my opinion, the ONLY reason we still have any hope of regime change is because of the incompetence of the current administration. The next time they try, they will be better prepared.

Sky Blue's avatar

ABSOLUTELY, Guy!!

America NEEDS to make some important changes to ensure this doesn't happen again... ASAP!!

Clinton or Trump, it doesn't matter, it's always the Epstein class. Perpetually pushing the tyrants’ left-right theatrics is perpetuating their criminal rule.

“A truth vacuum “. Yes, indeed. Name it! I continue to hope that each action we each take - researching, writing, reading - strengthens TRUTH resilience

I continue to hope that our collective commitment to believe this horrific situation must and can change for betterment of our communities (not those already entrenched in power), with deep gratitude to John Lewis’ legacy, will BECOME the change we desperately need. The lassitude of those who still hesitate on the margins is infuriating. I cite Schumer in this group. The pablum-speakers currently campaigning for elective office are urgently needed as truthful advocates who have reasoned positions and the platforms to broadcast them. Clarity unclouded by the allure of power.

A girl can have hope

It's just so much coming from a single source. I don't now recall when or how I stumbled on to you, but I pay for your thinking and writing, and I'd really like to know WHO YOU ARE and WHERE YOU CAME FROM?

Thank you so much for your intelligent, accessible writing, broad research and comprehensive information, which you frame so well. Your work is a valuable example of balanced critical thinking, so desperately needed in these dark times. I share your articles in lieu of subscribing, which is a bit beyond my current, more local subs (I’m in Australia). I would if I could, and will if I can. All the best to you, and to all who care about preserving the precious social freedoms of democracy. For such serious subjects, your writing is a joy to read.
